Quoting the Tao Te Ching “ The truth is not always beautiful, nor is beautiful words always truth” translation: being honest is unpleasant, but necessary.
And liberty .. my father would take the family to dinner on steamed claims once in a while and he never worried about gas for car. Years ago when I had a car I rarely used it except to and from work and I carpooled so every other day. It was too expensive. And if you went to the movies and eat fast food - that was too expensive.
Sure - we have liberties - but too poor to exercise them.
In the same sense one might say not even wild animals are free. They exist within systems. Outside of their systems they die and no longer exist.
I have backyard chickens and found out via Facebook groups that a lot of goons have backyard chickens and relentlessly anthropomorphize them. One lady used to go on about her hens teaching their broods, which is complete bullshit. Words fail to describe the level of bullshit.
My hens were hatched in incubators and put in boxes and shipped to Tractor Supply. I brought four of them home and put them in a larger box. When they could flap their wings and hop to the top of the box I put them in the coop. The chicks scratch peck huddle together consume the food and water you put out for them and scrap out a pecking order from day one. No roosters or older hens in sight. At sexual maturity, they will stomp and hunker down for mating when you walk up to them. They are wired for Chicken and can never be anything else.
Old male bears will fight every mating season as if they were still in their prime. Eventually they die from fighting. They're Bears and can't not fight. Jane Goodall was shocked into retirement by chimpanzees being chimpanzees. When the tribe gets too large they start civil wars, brutal and bloody in their uniquely hominid way, and split up. Timothy Treadwell was eaten alive because he thought he could be a bear. He had a lot of enablers.
Which brings me to humans, and my conclusion that we are way more creatures of instinct than our cerebrums like to admit. I can't prove this, but the system we have was probably always the system we were going to have. And paradoxically, the democratic and technological systems we have built as an expression of our Will to Power are slowly killing us. Theoretically we will evolve and adapt to wield them viably but nobody else in the Universe, assuming there is anybody else in the Universe, seems to have figured it out. Hence the Great Filter solution to the Fermi Paradox: when creatures' cerebrums get too big, they engineer superviruses, exotic sexual practices, rapacious consumption, mind-deadening technology, planet-cracking weapons, and proceed to destroy the species.
Maybe the Dune future is in front of us, with royal families ruling entire galaxies and heighliners enabling intergalactic travel. But the universe you see when you look up in the sky is already 13.8 billion years old. As an anonymous internet author points out, we should already have visitations from
It is interesting to me your thoughts on the break up of the family structure and tribal communities. As you, I have seen this at the root societies issues. It is the lack of self respect given the young.
I once as a skinny white teen would ride my bike into the black neighborhood, go in the small bars and have a seat at one of the small round tables and they would bring me a very cold quart of Miller beer and a frozen glass on a napkin. Always the same in the different small bars up there. The feeling of acceptance and peace in those places is now the same as a small dinner filled with rural white farmers. No other place does that for me now.
The homogenization of society has been a horrible loss to us all.
And thank you for your writing. It has meant something to me.
Communitarianism is within your LOCAL grasp IF you TAKE IT. OR XOR (exclusive OR) Someone else will. Like Harrisburg for example.
Background: America is a recurring organic federation- it happens naturally over and over from the Iroquois to the Internet and all arrangements in between. Currently we are in a transition from the unnatural centralization of the New Deal - WW2-Cold War to a turbulent devolution to our more natural federation.
Commune is there IF you take it. Nothing is given but scraps especially from Quakers. Want Quaker? Taylor and Scientific management.
Currently the GOP remains the party for where you live: crime, schools, local economy, not the party of National Centralization-New Deal-Empire. GOP is transitioning back to party of common working man (Lincoln). Dems remain the party that wants the Empire back (Globalism) but absolutely not where you want to live, outside of super zips.
🇺🇸 Transitions; Blue is old and singing the Blues, Red is young and seeing Red. Choose, ain’t no middle. Middle is perennially Tainted.

Very poignant article
This is just Calvinism or possibly Quakerism. No agency, no free will, people must be ruthlessly socially engineered.
